## Biography

Marc Shaiman is an American composer and lyricist for film, television and theatre. Born on 22 October 1959 in Newark, New Jersey, he began his career as a musical director and arranger, working with Bette Midler and on Saturday Night Live before moving into film scoring.

His film credits include the scores for *Misery* (1990), *The Addams Family* (1991), *City Slickers* (1991), *A Few Good Men* (1992), *Sleepless in Seattle* (1993) and *South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut* (1999). He has also composed for *When Harry Met Sally...* (1989), *Sister Act* (1992) and *Mary Poppins Returns* (2018), and co-wrote the Broadway musical *Hairspray* with Scott Wittman.

Shaiman has received two Grammy Awards, two Primetime Emmy Awards and a Tony Award, and has been nominated for seven Academy Awards. He has frequently collaborated with director Rob Reiner and actor Billy Crystal.
