## Biography

Margaret Booth was an American film editor. Born in Los Angeles in 1898, she began her career as a film joiner or patcher for D. W. Griffith around 1915 after the death of her brother, actor Elmer Booth.

She worked for Louis B. Mayer and joined MGM upon its formation in 1924. Booth became the studio's first official film editor and later its supervising film editor, a role she held for nearly three decades. Her credits include *Smilin' Through* (1932), *The Barretts of Wimpole Street* (1934), *Mutiny on the Bounty* (1935, Academy Award nomination for Best Film Editing), *Camille* (1936) and *Romeo and Juliet* (1936). After leaving MGM in 1968 she supervised editing for producer Ray Stark on films such as *The Way We Were* (1973), *The Sunshine Boys* (1975), *The Goodbye Girl* (1977) and *Annie* (1982).

Booth received an Academy Honorary Award in 1978. She died in Los Angeles in 2002.
