## Biography

Margaret Kennedy was an English novelist, playwright and screenwriter. Born on 23 April 1896 in Hyde Park Gate, London, she was educated at Cheltenham Ladies' College and read History at Somerville College, Oxford.

Her second novel, *The Constant Nymph* (1924), became a bestseller and was adapted into a successful stage play (with Basil Dean) and several films. She wrote screenplays including for *The Man in Grey* (1943), and contributed to other adaptations such as *Escape Me Never* (1947) and *Take My Life* (1947). Later novels included *The Feast* (1949) and *Troy Chimneys* (1953), the latter awarded the James Tait Black Memorial Prize.

She married barrister David Davies in 1925; he was later knighted. They had three children. Kennedy died on 31 July 1967 in Adderbury, Oxfordshire.
