She wrote the screenplay for Alain Resnais’s *Hiroshima Mon Amour* (1959), for which she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay. Duras was born on 4 April 1914 in Gia Định, French Indochina (now Vietnam), and died on 3 March 1996 in Paris. She studied law and politics at the Sorbonne. She directed experimental features including *India Song* (1975) and adapted several of her own novels and plays for the screen.
