## Biography

Marguerite Renoir (born Marguerite Houllé) was a French film editor. She was born on 22 July 1906 in Paris and died on 12 July 1987 in Vigneux-sur-Seine. She began working in film around 1921 as an apprentice colourist at Pathé Studios and went on to edit more than sixty films between 1929 and 1972.

She edited numerous films directed by Jean Renoir, with whom she had a long personal relationship, including *Grand Illusion* (1937), *La Bête Humaine* (1938) and *The Rules of the Game* (1939, co-edited with Marthe Huguet). She also edited *Boudu Saved from Drowning* (1932), *A Day in the Country* (1946), *Casque d'Or* (1952), *Touchez Pas au Grisbi* (1954), *Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves* (1954), *Le Trou* (1960) and *Masculin Féminin* (1966). She worked with directors including Jacques Becker and Luis Buñuel.

Although she and Renoir never married, she adopted his surname and was sometimes credited as Marguerite Houllé-Renoir. She was a supporter of the French Communist Party.
