## Biography

Marian Mercer was an American actress and singer. Born in Akron, Ohio, she graduated from the University of Michigan and began her career in summer stock before moving to New York in the late 1950s.

She made her Broadway debut in the chorus of Greenwillow (1960) and won the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical, along with Drama Desk and Theatre World awards, for her performance in Promises, Promises (1968). Her film credits include John and Mary (1969), Oh, God! Book II (1980) and Nine to Five (1980), in which she played Missy Hart.

On television she appeared in series such as It's a Living (1980–1989), Murder, She Wrote, The Golden Girls and St. Elsewhere, and in television films including Murder in Three Acts (1986). Mercer’s career spanned stage, film and television from the 1950s until around 2000.
