## Biography

Marie-France Pisier (10 May 1944 – 24 April 2011) was a French actress, screenwriter and director. She appeared in numerous French New Wave films and twice won the César Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Born in Dalat, French Indochina, she moved to Paris as a child. She began acting in the early 1960s and gained recognition for roles in François Truffaut’s Antoine Doinel series, including *Antoine and Colette* (1962) and *Stolen Kisses* (1968). She co-wrote the screenplay for Jacques Rivette’s *Céline and Julie Go Boating* (1974), in which she played Sophie, and appeared as Mrs Calmette in Luis Buñuel’s *The Phantom of Liberty* (1974).

Pisier won César awards for her performances in *Cousin Cousine* (1975) and *Barocco* (1976). She collaborated with André Téchiné on several films and later directed *The Governor’s Party* (1990) and *Comme un avion* (2002). She played Madame Verdurin in Raúl Ruiz’s *Time Regained* (1999).
