## Biography

Mario Alicata was an Italian writer, literary critic and politician. Born in Reggio di Calabria in 1918, he studied in Palermo and Rome, where he became involved in antifascist groups and joined the Italian Communist Party in 1940.

He worked in publishing and collaborated on film projects, co-writing the screenplay and dialogue for Luchino Visconti's *Ossessione* (1943), an adaptation of James M. Cain's novel *The Postman Always Rings Twice*. He also contributed to other cinematic adaptations of literary works. Alicata held editorial roles at communist publications and was active in post-war politics, serving in local government and as a member of the Communist Party leadership until his death in Rome in 1966.
