## Biography

Mario Machado (born Mário José de Souza Machado) was a Portuguese-Chinese-American television and radio broadcaster and actor. Born in Shanghai, China, he became the first American of Chinese heritage to work as an on-air television news reporter and anchor in Los Angeles in 1970. He worked for many years at KNXT/KCBS-TV and earned eight Emmy Awards.

As an actor, Machado frequently portrayed news anchors and reporters. He appeared as himself in *Blue Thunder* (1983) and played interviewer roles in *Rocky III* (1982) and *Scarface* (1983). He is best known for playing newsman Casey Wong in the three *RoboCop* films (1987–1993). He also appeared in *St. Elmo's Fire* (1985) and episodes of series including *Murder, She Wrote* and *Beverly Hills, 90210*.
