## Biography

Mario Pannunzio (1910–1968) was an Italian journalist, writer and screenwriter. Born in Lucca, he trained at the Centro sperimentale di cinematografia in the mid-1930s and contributed screenplays to several films, including *I grandi magazzini* (1939), *Capitan Fracassa* (1940), *La maschera di Cesare Borgia* (1941) and *Europa '51* (1952).

Pannunzio was best known as a journalist and editor. He co-directed *Oggi* in the late 1930s and early 1940s, directed *Risorgimento liberale* after the war, and in 1949 founded and edited the influential weekly *Il Mondo* until its closure in 1966. He was active in the Italian Liberal Party and later helped found the Radical Party.
