She made her screen debut as Kitty King opposite Buster Keaton in the 1928 film *Steamboat Bill, Jr.*. She had previously appeared on stage as a singer and dancer from the age of 13 and was given the nickname "Peanuts" for her short stature. Byron was hired by Hal Roach and appeared in short subjects, including a series of three films co-starring with Anita Garvin in 1928–1929. She later worked in musical features such as *Broadway Babies* (1929) and *Golden Dawn* (1930). Her roles diminished in the 1930s and her final screen appearance was in *Five of a Kind* (1938).
