Marissa Jo Cerar is a television writer and producer. She holds a degree in film from Columbia College Chicago. Her first credited work was the short film *Steps* (2009). She joined the writers' room on *The Fosters* in 2013 as a staff writer and later served as story editor.

Cerar wrote episodes of *Shots Fired* (2017), *13 Reasons Why* (2018) and *The Handmaid's Tale* (2019), on the latter also working as supervising producer. She created and served as showrunner on the limited series *Women of the Movement* (2022) and *Black Cake* (2023). She received a Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Drama Series for *The Handmaid's Tale* and has won a NAACP Image Award and two Humanitas Prizes.
