## Biography

Marjorie Best was an American costume designer. She was born on 10 April 1903 in Jacksonville, Illinois, and studied at the Chouinard Art Institute. She began working for the Western Costume Company in 1926, later moved to United Costumers, and joined Warner Bros.' wardrobe department after the studio acquired that company in 1936.

Her first credit as a costume designer was on *Silver River* (1948). Best won an Academy Award for *Adventures of Don Juan* (1949), shared with Leah Rhodes and Travilla. She received further nominations for *Giant* (1956), shared with Moss Mabry, *Sunrise at Campobello* (1960) and *The Greatest Story Ever Told* (1965). She retired in 1965 and died on 14 June 1997 in Toluca Lake, California.
