## Biography

Mark Davies Markham was a British television and theatre writer. He began writing plays in the early 1980s while working as a special needs teacher in the Liverpool area. His first play, *Are You Awake*, was staged by Liverpool Lunchtime Theatre in 1984.

He wrote episodes of the BBC series *EastEnders* (1995–2000), *Band of Gold* (1997) and *This Life* (1997). Markham also wrote the book for the musical *Taboo* and the television film *Liverpool Nativity* (2007). He contributed numerous radio dramas for BBC Radio 4.

Markham, who was born in Bootle and lived between Liverpool and Surrey, died on 16 January 2023.
