Mark O'Connell, also credited as Mark Gehred-O'Connell and Mark Eugene O'Connell, is an American screenwriter and author. He contributed stories and teleplays to several episodes of the television series *Star Trek: Deep Space Nine* (1993), including the story and teleplay (with Ira Steven Behr and Robert Hewitt Wolfe) for the second-season episode 'Second Sight'. He also provided the original storyline (uncredited) for the *Star Trek: The Next Generation* episode 'Timescape'.

O'Connell is the author of the 2017 biography *The Close Encounters Man: How One Man Made the World Believe in UFOs*, about astronomer and ufologist J. Allen Hynek. He has worked as a television commentator and university lecturer.
