Mark Synnott is an American climber, writer and expedition leader. He has appeared as himself in several documentaries, including *Free Solo* (2018), which follows Alex Honnold’s ropeless ascent of El Capitan, and *Explorer: The Last Tepui* (2022).

Synnott has undertaken numerous exploratory expeditions, pioneering big-wall first ascents in locations such as Baffin Island and the Karakoram. He is a New York Times bestselling author whose books include *The Impossible Climb* (2019), recounting his friendship with Honnold and the events surrounding the *Free Solo* climb, and *The Third Pole* (2021), about a mystery on Everest.
