## Biography

Marne Maitland was an Anglo-Indian actor. Born James Marne Kumar Maitland in Calcutta in 1914, he was educated at Bedales School and Magdalene College, Cambridge. His early career in repertory theatre was interrupted by six years of service in the British Army during the Second World War. He later joined the Old Vic Company.

Maitland appeared in numerous British films and television productions from the 1950s onwards, often in character roles. Notable credits include *Cleopatra* (1963), *The Man with the Golden Gun* (1974) as Lazar, *Roma* (1972), *The Black Stallion* (1979), *Trail of the Pink Panther* (1982) and *The Belly of an Architect* (1987). He also featured in series such as *The Avengers* (1961) and *The Saint* (1962). From the early 1970s he lived in Rome and worked in Italian productions, including voice dubbing. He died in 1991.
