## Biography

Martin Donovan (born Carlos Enrique Varela y Peralta Ramos, 21 January 1950) is an Argentine screenwriter and film director. He began his career in Italy, assisting Luchino Visconti and appearing in films including Federico Fellini's *Satyricon* (1969). He later moved to England, where he worked in theatre and as a writer and script consultant on British and American television series.

Donovan is known for co-writing and directing the cult film *Apartment Zero* (1989) and for co-writing the screenplay for *Death Becomes Her* (1992) with David Koepp. He also provided additional dialogue for *Mrs Palfrey at the Claremont* (2005). His other directorial credits include *State of Wonder* (1984) and *Somebody Is Waiting* (1996). He has received awards including the Special Jury Prize and Critics Award at the Cognac Festival du Film Policier and the Golden Space Needle Award at the Seattle International Film Festival.
