## Biography

Martin Mull (1943–2024) was an American actor, musician and painter. Born in Chicago, he studied painting at the Rhode Island School of Design, earning a BFA in 1965 and an MFA in 1967. He began performing as a satirical singer-songwriter in the early 1970s before moving into acting.

Mull first gained prominence playing Garth Gimble on the soap-opera parody *Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman* (1976) and its spin-off *Fernwood 2 Night* (1977), in which he portrayed the character's twin brother Barth Gimble alongside Fred Willard. Film roles included Colonel Mustard in *Clue* (1985) and Justin Gregory in *Mrs. Doubtfire* (1993). He appeared in numerous television series, among them *Roseanne*, *Two and a Half Men* and *Arrested Development*.

Mull maintained a parallel career as a painter throughout his life. He was the subject of the 2026 documentary *Who Is Martin Mull?*.
