## Biography

Martin Ruhe is a German cinematographer. Born in 1965 in Paderborn, North Rhine-Westphalia, he trained as a focus puller before moving to London, where he worked as a runner for a camera rental company. He went on to shoot more than 200 music videos and hundreds of commercials.

Ruhe gained prominence in narrative filmmaking with his work on Anton Corbijn’s *Control* (2007), a biopic of Joy Division singer Ian Curtis. He collaborated again with Corbijn on *The American* (2010) and has served as director of photography on films including *Harry Brown* (2009), *Run All Night* (2015), *American Pastoral* (2016), *The Midnight Sky* (2020) and *The Boys in the Boat* (2023), as well as the miniseries *Catch-22* (2019) and *Counterpart* (2017–2018).

A member of the American Society of Cinematographers, Ruhe won the ASC Award for Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography for the television film *Page Eight* (2011).
