## Biography

Mary C. McCall, Jr. was an American screenwriter. She graduated from Vassar College and Trinity College, Dublin, and began writing advertising copy and fiction before entering film. Warner Bros. hired her in the early 1930s after purchasing one of her novels.

Her screen credits include the 1935 adaptation of *A Midsummer Night's Dream*, *Craig's Wife* (1936), eight of the ten films in the Maisie series, *The Fighting Sullivans* (1944) and *Mr. Belvedere Goes to College* (1949). She also wrote episodes of television series including *Gilligan's Island* (1964) and *I Dream of Jeannie* (1965).

McCall was a charter member and the first woman president of the Screen Writers Guild, serving from 1942 to 1944 and again from 1951 to 1952. She received the Writers Guild's Valentine Davies Award in 1962.
