## Biography

Mary Carlisle (born Gwendolyn Witter) was an American actress, singer and dancer whose film career ran from 1923 to 1943. She appeared in more than 60 Hollywood films, often in ingénue roles in musical comedies and other genres. In 1932 she was named one of the WAMPAS Baby Stars.

Her credited roles include a young party guest in *Smilin' Through* (1932) and Mrs Hoffman in *Grand Hotel* (1932). She also appeared in *Dance, Girl, Dance* (1940) and starred opposite Bing Crosby in several Paramount musicals, among them *College Humor* (1933). Carlisle retired from acting after *Dead Men Walk* (1943) and later managed an Elizabeth Arden salon in Beverly Hills.
