## Biography

Mary Philips, also credited as Mary Phillips, was an American stage and film actress. Born in New London, Connecticut, she made her Broadway debut as a chorus girl and appeared in numerous stage productions, including *The Postman Always Rings Twice* (1936) and *Chicken Every Sunday* (1944).

Her film roles included Helen Ferguson in *A Farewell to Arms* (1932), Mrs Berent in *Leave Her to Heaven* (1945), Mrs Mary Fowler in *A Woman's Secret* (1949) and the Queen in *Prince Valiant* (1954). She was married to actors Humphrey Bogart from 1928 to 1937 and Kenneth MacKenna from 1938 until his death in 1962.
