Maryam Hassan is an American actress and singer-songwriter. Born on 27 January 1993 in Brooklyn, New York, she made her screen debut as Tomika in the 2003 comedy film *The School of Rock*, directed by Richard Linklater. She performed vocals in the role, including a rendition of Aretha Franklin’s “Chain of Fools”.

Hassan suggested the name Tomika for her character. The film is her only screen credit. She has since pursued a career in music, releasing work under the stage name Mayhrenate. In 2003 she appeared on the television programmes *The Tonight Show with Jay Leno* and *The View*.
