## Biography

Masao Shimizu was a Japanese actor. He made his film debut in 1931 and appeared in numerous productions until the mid-1970s.

Shimizu formed the Mingei Theatre Company in 1947. His wife was the actress Yumi Takano. He frequently collaborated with director Akira Kurosawa.

Among his notable roles are the doctor in *Ikiru* (1952), the judge in *Scandal* (1950), and Masauji Taira in *Sansho the Bailiff* (1954).
