## Biography

Masao Tamai (3 October 1908 – 26 May 1997) was a Japanese cinematographer. He worked extensively with director Mikio Naruse on films including *Repast* (1951), *Sound of the Mountain* (1954), *Floating Clouds* (1955) and *When a Woman Ascends the Stairs* (1960).

Tamai was cinematographer on Ishirō Honda's *Godzilla* (1954). He received credit on the 1956 American re-edit *Godzilla, King of the Monsters!* and on the 1977 re-release of the original film.
