## Biography

Mat King is an Australian-born director and producer who has worked in British, American and Australian television. Born on 3 February 1975 in Adelaide, he began his career in the 1990s as a second-unit director and made several short films before directing the children's series *The Fairies* in 2005.

He moved to the United Kingdom, where he directed fifteen episodes of *MI High* and worked on series including *Law & Order: UK*, *Holby City* and *DCI Banks*. King directed the 2013 *Doctor Who* episode 'Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS'. Later credits include *The Wrong Girl*, *Wentworth*, *Pine Gap*, *My Life Is Murder* and *Return to Paradise*.

He is a British and Australian citizen and a member of BAFTA, Directors UK, the Australian Directors Guild and AACTA. His work has received awards including the 2014 National Television Award for Best Drama (*Doctor Who*) and the 2013 Royal Television Society Award for Best Drama (*DCI Banks*).
