## Biography

Mateo Gil is a Spanish screenwriter, film director and occasional assistant director. Born on 23 September 1972 in Las Palmas, Spain, he studied at the Universidad Complutense in Madrid, where he met Alejandro Amenábar.

Gil co-wrote several of Amenábar's films, including *Open Your Eyes* (1997), *The Sea Inside* (2004) and *Agora* (2009). He has also written *The Method* (2005) and *Realive* (2016), and directed features such as *Nobody Knows Anybody* (1999), *Blackthorn* (2011) and *The Laws of Thermodynamics* (2018).

He has won four Goya Awards, including for Best Original Screenplay for *The Sea Inside* and *Agora*, and Best Adapted Screenplay for *The Method*.
