Matt Briggs was an American character actor. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and made his Broadway debut in 1929. He appeared in numerous stage productions, including revivals of *The Male Animal* and *Bloomer Girl*, often in supporting roles.

Briggs's film credits include *The Ox-Bow Incident* (1943), in which he played Judge Daniel Tyler, *Buffalo Bill* (1944) and *The Babe Ruth Story* (1948). He also worked in television during the early 1950s. In 1950 he served as fourth vice-president of Actors' Equity Association.
