## Biography

Matt Mattox (born Harold Henry Mattox) was an American dancer and actor. He is best known for playing Brother Caleb Pontipee in the 1954 film *Seven Brides for Seven Brothers*.

Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Mattox trained in ballet, tap and modern dance after moving to California as a child. He served in the United States Army Air Forces during the Second World War. After the war he performed on Broadway in musicals including *Are You with It?* (1945), *Magdalena* (1948) and *Once Upon a Mattress* (1959), and appeared as a dancer in numerous Hollywood musical films such as *Gentlemen Prefer Blondes* (1953), *The Band Wagon* (1953) and *Guys and Dolls* (1955). He later worked as a choreographer and dance educator, teaching in Europe from the 1970s.

Mattox died in Perpignan, France, in 2013.
