## Biography

Matthew Arkin is an American actor. He was born on 21 March 1960 in Brooklyn, New York, the son of actor Alan Arkin and the brother of actor Adam Arkin. He appeared as a child in the short film *People Soup* (1969), directed by his father.

Arkin graduated from Wesleyan University and earned a law degree from Fordham University School of Law. After practising law for several years he returned to acting. His film credits include *An Unmarried Woman* (1978), *Liar Liar* (1997), *Death to Smoochy* (2002) and *City Island* (2009). Television appearances encompass multiple episodes of *Law & Order* and its spin-offs, *Criminal Minds*, *NCIS*, *Hawaii Five-0* and *Veronica Mars* (2014).

On stage he originated the role of Gabe in Donald Margulies’s *Dinner with Friends* (Drama Desk Award nomination) and appeared in Broadway productions including *The Sunshine Boys* (1997) and *Laughter on the 23rd Floor*. He has also worked as an acting instructor and is the author of the novel *In the Country of the Blind*.
