## Biography

Matthew J. Saville is a New Zealand actor, writer and film director. Born in Durban, South Africa, to a New Zealander mother and South African father, he moved to New Zealand as a child. He studied acting at Toi Whakaari after discovering theatre and film at university.

Saville wrote and directed the short films *Hitch Hike* (2012) and *Dive* (2014), the latter of which won awards at Show Me Shorts. His feature directorial debut, *Juniper* (2021), which he also wrote, starred Charlotte Rampling. He has acted in films including *X* (2022) as Officer Mitchell and *Black Sheep* (2006), as well as in television series such as *Spartacus* (2010) and *The Almighty Johnsons* (2013). He has also written for New Zealand television, including *Shortland Street* (2005).
