## Biography

Matti Jaaranen is a Finnish actor and musician. Born on 22 September 1951 in Valtimo, he began his career in theatre, joining Ylioppilasteatteri in 1974 and working as a set designer at Ryhmäteatteri before moving into performance.

He joined the comedy band Lapinlahden Linnut in 1983 as a performer, singer and trumpeter, appearing in their numerous television sketch series including *Seitsemän kuolemansyntiä* (1988) and *Kuudesti laukeava* (1992). His film roles include the mugger in Aki Kaurismäki’s *Ariel* (1988) and parts in *Kiljusen herrasväen uudet seikkailut* (1990) and *Tanssi perhoseni tanssi* (1999). He has also contributed writing and production design to several projects.
