## Biography

Max Douy was a French production designer and art director. Born in 1914 in Issy-les-Moulineaux, he began working in film in the early 1930s as an assistant draftsman and sketch artist, later assisting on Jean Renoir's *The Rules of the Game* (1939). He became a full art director in the mid-1940s.

Douy collaborated extensively with director Claude Autant-Lara from the late 1940s onwards, designing sets for nearly twenty films including *Le Diable au corps* (1947), *Occupe-toi d'Amélie* (1949) and *La Traversée de Paris* (1956). His credits also include *Jenny Lamour* (1947), *French Cancan* (1955), *Topkapi* (1964) and the James Bond film *Moonraker* (1979). He received a César Award for Best Production Design for *Malevil* (1981).

He died in 2007.
