## Biography

Max Fabian, also credited as Maximilian Fabian, was a Polish-Jewish cinematographer who worked in Hollywood during the silent era and the transition to sound films.

Born Maksymilian Fabian on 1 May 1891 in Lemberg, Galicia, Austria-Hungary, he received cinematography credits on approximately eighteen films between the early 1920s and 1930. These include *The Strangers' Banquet* (1922), *Mr. Barnes of New York* (1922), *The Gay Deceiver* (1926), *The Thirteenth Hour* (1927), *Shadows of the Night* (1928) and *The Hollywood Revue of 1929* (1929).

After his final credited film as director of photography, the Spanish-language *El Presidio* (1930), Fabian moved into MGM's visual effects department, where he specialised in miniature photography and special effects.
