## Biography

Max Rée was a Danish costume designer and art director who worked in theatre and film. Born in Copenhagen, he studied architecture there before designing for the stage in Berlin and later on Broadway.

He moved to Hollywood in the mid-1920s and contributed costumes to films including *Queen Kelly* (1929), *The Wedding March* (1928) and *Cimarron* (1931). For the latter he received the Academy Award for Best Art Direction.

Rée returned to costume design for the 1935 Warner Bros. adaptation of *A Midsummer Night's Dream*, directed by Max Reinhardt and William Dieterle. He died in Los Angeles in 1953.
