His screen debut came as the Sergeant Recounting Dream in Luis Buñuel's *The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie* (1972). He subsequently appeared in Buñuel's *The Phantom of Liberty* (1974) as the Lieutenant of the Dragoons and in Alain Robbe-Grillet's *Successive Slidings of Pleasure* (1974) as the Client.

Mailfort is also known for his title role in *Bartleby* (1976) and for playing Turkov in an episode of *The New Avengers* (1976). His other credits include *Enigma* (1982) and numerous French television roles.
