## Biography

Megs Jenkins (born Muguette Mary Jenkins) was an English character actress who appeared in British films and television from the late 1930s to the 1990s. She was born on 21 April 1917 in Birkenhead, Cheshire, the daughter of a construction engineer. She originally trained as a ballet dancer but turned to acting, studying at the School of Dancing and Dramatic Art in Liverpool. She joined the Liverpool Repertory Company in 1933 and made her London stage debut at the Players' Theatre in 1937.

Her film roles include Nurse Woods in *Green for Danger* (1946), Mrs. Grose in *The Innocents* (1961), and Mrs. Bedwin in *Oliver!* (1968). She also appeared in *The Cruel Sea* (1953), *Bunny Lake Is Missing* (1965), *Murder Most Foul* (1964) and *Asylum* (1972). On stage she received the Clarence Derwent Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1956 for her performance in Arthur Miller's *A View from the Bridge*. She was married to George Routledge from 1943 to 1959. Jenkins died on 5 October 1998 in Felixstowe, Suffolk.
