## Biography

Mel Ferber (1922–2003) was an American television director and producer. Born and raised in New York City, he graduated from the City College of New York and entered the industry after serving in the Second World War.

Ferber directed episodes of numerous series, including *The Mary Tyler Moore Show* (1970), *Happy Days* (1974; including the pilot), *The Odd Couple* (1970), *Quincy, M.E.* (1976), *Alice* (1976), *Diff'rent Strokes* (1978) and *Webster* (1983). He also directed the live two-hour television presentation of *Wonderful Town* (1958), produced the pilot for *60 Minutes*, and served as executive producer of *Good Morning America*. He received Emmy nominations for his work on the latter and on CBS's *Calendar*.

A member of the Directors Guild of America, Ferber died in Los Angeles in 2003.
