Melissa Bruning is an American costume designer. She was born on 6 October 1971 in Syracuse, New York, and raised in Omaha, Nebraska. She holds a BFA in technical theatre from Nebraska Wesleyan University and an MFA in costume design from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.

Bruning has designed costumes for films including *Wild* (2014), *Dawn of the Planet of the Apes* (2014), *War for the Planet of the Apes* (2017), *Rampage* (2018) and *Space Jam: A New Legacy* (2021). She was nominated for a Costume Designers Guild Award for Excellence in Contemporary Film for her work on *Wild*. Her television credits include *Black Monday* and *Bosch: Legacy*. She has also directed short films.
