## Biography

Menno Meyjes is a Dutch screenwriter, film director and producer. He moved to the United States in 1972 and studied at the San Francisco Art Institute.

His first produced screenplay was for *The Color Purple* (1985), directed by Steven Spielberg. He received Academy Award and BAFTA Award nominations for Best Adapted Screenplay. He co-wrote the story for *Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade* (1989) with George Lucas and won a Goya Award for the screenplay of the Spanish film *Twisted Obsession* (1989). He also contributed to *Empire of the Sun* (1987).

Meyjes made his directorial debut with *Max* (2002), which he also wrote. Subsequent directing credits include *Martian Child* (2007) and *A Matador's Mistress* (2008). He later returned to the Netherlands, where he directed adaptations such as *The Dinner* (2013).
