## Biography

Merrill De Maris (26 February 1898 – 31 December 1948) was an American writer who worked on stories and screenplays for Walt Disney animated films and on Disney comic strips for King Features Syndicate.

He received a story adaptation credit on *Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs* (1937). De Maris joined the Disney studio in late 1932 and contributed to several animated shorts, including *Three Blind Mouseketeers* (1936), *Don Donald* (1937) and *Wynken, Blynken & Nod* (1938).

He is also known for scripting *Mickey Mouse* newspaper strips with artist Floyd Gottfredson, co-creating characters such as the Phantom Blot, Chief O'Hara and Detective Casey, and for writing comic-strip adaptations of the feature films *Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs*, *Pinocchio* and *Bambi*.
