Michael Butler is an American screenwriter. He was born on 27 March 1941 in Los Angeles, California.

Butler wrote the screenplay for *Pale Rider* (1985) with Dennis Shryack. His other film credits include *The Gauntlet* (1977), *The Car* (1977), *Code of Silence* (1985), *Flashpoint* (1984) and *Brannigan* (1975). He also wrote episodes of the television series *Baretta* and created the series *Houston Knights* (1987–1988) and *Against the Law* (1990–1991).
