Michael Hayes (3 April 1929 – 16 September 2014) was a British television director. Born in Barking, Essex, he began his career as an actor with the Royal Shakespeare Company before joining the BBC, where he worked as a studio manager for the World Service and progressed to directing for television.

His early directing credits included the BBC Shakespeare adaptation series *An Age of Kings* (1960) and the science-fiction serial *A for Andromeda* (1961). He later directed three *Doctor Who* serials starring Tom Baker: *The Androids of Tara* (1978), *The Armageddon Factor* (1979) and *City of Death* (1979). Other work encompassed episodes of *All Creatures Great and Small* and various BBC dramas. From 1986 to 1994 he served as a newsreader for the World Service.
