Michael Kane (1922–2020) was an American screenwriter and director. He wrote the screenplay for the 1981 film *Southern Comfort*, directed by Walter Hill, in collaboration with Hill and David Giler.

His other screenwriting credits include *Hot Stuff* (1979), the story for *Smokey and the Bandit II* (1980), *All the Right Moves* (1983), *The Legend of the Lone Ranger* (1981) and *The Bear* (1984). He also directed episodes of television series including *Gilligan's Island* (1967) and *The Brady Bunch* (1974).
