Michael McElhatton is an Irish actor and writer. Born on 12 September 1963 in Terenure, Dublin, he trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, graduating in 1987.

He is best known for playing Roose Bolton in the HBO series *Game of Thrones* (2012–2016). Other credits include *The Autopsy of Jane Doe* (2016), *Chernobyl* (2019), *The Wheel of Time* (2021), *The Last Duel* (2021) and *Jack Ryan* (2022–2023). He appeared as John Potter in the Netflix series *House of Guinness* (2025).

McElhatton has also written for television, including the series *Paths to Freedom* (2000).
