## Biography

Michael Pate (born Edward John Pate) was an Australian actor, writer, director and producer. Born in Drummoyne, New South Wales, he began his career in radio and theatre in Sydney before moving into film in the 1940s. He appeared in early Australian productions including *Forty Thousand Horsemen* (1940) and *Sons of Matthew* (1949).

Pate spent much of the 1950s and 1960s working in the United States, where he took supporting roles in films such as *Julius Caesar* (1953) as Flavius, *Hondo* (1953) and *The Court Jester* (1955), and numerous television series including *Batman* (1966), *Get Smart* (1965) and *Mission: Impossible* (1966). He later returned to Australia, where he continued acting and worked as a producer and director on projects including *The Mango Tree* (1977).
