Michael Paul Chan is an American actor. Born on 26 June 1950 in San Francisco, California, he is a third-generation Chinese American. He trained at San Francisco State University and the American Conservatory Theater, and is a founding member of the Asian American Theater Company.

Chan is known for playing Lieutenant Michael Tao on the TNT series *The Closer* (2005–2012) and its spin-off *Major Crimes* (2012–2018). His film roles include Data's father in *The Goonies* (1985), Mr. Lee in *Falling Down* (1993), a Wayne Enterprises executive in *Batman Forever* (1995), and Vincent Vy Ngo in *Spy Game* (2001). He has also appeared in *The Joy Luck Club* (1993), *U.S. Marshals* (1998), and provided a voice on *The Simpsons* (2011).

Chan has been married to Christina Ann Chan since 1975; they have one child. His brother was the author and academic Jeffery Paul Chan.
