## Biography

Michael Phillips is an American film producer. Born on 29 June 1943 in Brooklyn and raised on Long Island, he graduated with a B.A. in history from Dartmouth College and a J.D. from New York University School of Law. He was admitted to the New York Bar in 1969 and worked as a securities analyst on Wall Street before moving to California in 1971.

With his then-wife Julia Phillips and producer Tony Bill, he financed the screenplay for *The Sting* (1973), which won the Academy Award for Best Picture; the couple were the first husband-and-wife team to receive the award. They subsequently produced *Taxi Driver* (1976) and *Close Encounters of the Third Kind* (1977). Phillips later produced *The Flamingo Kid* (1984) and served as executive producer on several films including *Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead* (1991) and *Mimic* (1997). He has been married to writer Juliana Maio since 1987.
