## Biography

Michael Podchlebnik, also known as Mordechaï or Michał Podchlebnik, was a Polish Holocaust survivor born in 1907. He was selected for the Sonderkommando at the Chełmno extermination camp in occupied Poland in early 1942, where he worked disposing of victims' bodies, and was among the few prisoners to escape.

Podchlebnik testified at the 1945 Chełmno trials and the 1961 Eichmann trial in Jerusalem. He was interviewed by Claude Lanzmann for the documentary film *Shoah* (1985), appearing as himself. He died in 1985.
